Jeff Udall's side suffered a narrow defeat in the totesport.com League Cup at Bradford City on Wednesday night.
A first minute goal from Nathan Clarke was enough to give the Bantams victory in a game where the Shrimps created - but wasted - a host of chances.
After the two clubs met in a first team clash on Tuesday they locked horns again at Reserve level with the Bantams getting the best possible start with a goal on 24 seconds when Clarke headed home a Curtis Collantine cross.
Mark Duffy missed a great chance to level on 10 minutes and Rory Winters went agonisingly close with a header from Craig Stanley's free kick.
Shrimps' keeper Scott Davies then made two superb saves to deny the returning Peter Thorne before trialist Craig Lindfield saw a header hit the crossbar and bounce down on the line.
The second half saw the Shrimps create a number of chances with Duffy denied by a superb Jon McLaughlin save before the home keeper blocked a last gasp effort from Lindfield when he looked sure to score.
