In a game that saw few first half chances Neil Wainwright had a shot beaten down by Michael Burns and Carlisle replied as Manny Richardson went close for the Cumbrians.
The second half began with two early Morecambe substitutions as Ben Proctor replaced Davies in goal while Jason Yates came on for McStay at centre-half.
Again, though, there were few chances. Carlisle had a penalty appeal turned down after Andy Parrish tussled with Gary Madine.
Morecambe enjoyed a period on top with Evans missing a good chance and forving a good save from Gillespie and Garry Hunter forcing an important stop from the Carlisle keeper with a dangerous free kick that evaded everyone.
With 15 minutes to go Carlisle failed to take their best chance of the game when a stretching Richardson, on the end of Lakeland's great cross in from the right, somehow managed to spoon the ball over the top with his right boot from four yards out. Towler then tried his luck for the Cumbrians in the 77th minute only for his well-hit right-footed half-volley to slide inches wide of the far-post from 20 yards out.
The Shrimps thought they had won the game five minutes from time when a Ball header beat the keeper but it was ruled out for offside.
