MORECAMBE Reserves went down 2-1 to reigning champions Wrexham as they kicked off their totesport.com League campaign tonight.
Jim Bentley's side included a number of first team squad players looking for fitness and the Shrimps played their part in a game that saw plenty of chances at both ends.
Despite coming close on a number of occasions the first half remained goalless with Wrexham finally breaking the deadlock on 53 minutes when the experience Kevin Gall fired past Laurie Walker.
Morecambe hit back just after the hour when a dangerous Scott Brown free kick was spectacularly headed into his own net by Wrexham's Marvin Andrews.
Stuart Hendrie had a chance to give Morecambe the lead but he was denied by a good save from Chris Maxwell and with 10 minutes to go the home side took the spoils when Louis Moss ran on to Curtis Obeng's loig ball, rounded keeper Laurie Walker and scored from 15 yards out.
