A bright start by Accrington could have put the game beyond doubt inside of ten minutes but for two fine saves by Bee. One being a point blank save from prolific striker Black who was a thorn in the side of the Morecambe defence all day. As Clarke, Silver and Barrowclough grew into the game so did Morecambe and it was Clark who stung the Accrington Keepers hands with a 25 yard drive after a surging run.

It was looking like all Morecambe's pretty football was to be ineffective as Accrington dealt with most attacks comfortably. That was until the stroke of half time. Crossley broke up an Accrington attack and picked out a 60 yard through ball which striker Ricky Ball latched onto and calmly lobbed the ball over the keeper.

Morecambe fell victim to the initial second half surge when winger Field headed home without challenge at the back post from Blacks cross. Morecambe hit back on the hour when Silvers perfectly flighted free kick was headed home in front of the keeper by Taberner. With Morecambe looking comfortable it looked as if the game was to be played out without incident. But both sides had other ideas. On 75 minutes Field turned provider when his pace on the counter resulted in a simple tap in for Hobson at the back post.

Accrington were then reduced to ten men - skipper Riley seeing red for foul and abusive language. This prompted a rise in the Morecambe performance and keeper Molloy was forced into a string of saves from Ball, Silver, Clarke and Wraight.

Just as extra time looked likely the frustrating and largely anonymous Ricky Ball did what he does best - scored. Receiving the ball from Silver he skipped pas three despairing challenging across the box before lashing the ball into the top corner with his right foot - sensational and sparking a team celebration.

It was a rollercoaster performance but one which should give confidence as Morecambe return to league action this Saturday.
