Morecambe U/18 2, Blackpool U/18 2
Morecambe were denied a deserved victory in the last seconds as they put together another excellent performance.
An initial surge by Blackpool saw them take a deserved lead when Almond out muscled the home defence on 15 minutes and finished well past debutant goalkeeper Proctor.
From then on it was all Morecambe. Silver went close with a rasping drive just tipped over by the keeper and Ball was unlucky with a low right foot shot. It was Ball who equalised on the half hour, a corner by Wraight and Ball nipped in at the near post to guide a deft header into the corner.
It was Wraight again who tormented the Blackpool defence his deep cross headed back by Cowperthwaite into the path of Barrowclough and but for superb reactions by the Blackpool Keeper Morecambe would have lead at the half.
The second half belonged fully to Morecambe but chances came and went. Silver shot wide when released by Clarke, Clarke himself shot wide from the edge of the box and then Ball contrived to put the ball over the bar from six yards when unmarked.
However, the moment of the day belonged to Chris Wraight - a moment of brilliance that if done by a Brazilian on national TV would be replayed for years to come.
First he controlled a ball out of the sky killing it dead, in the same movement he deftly flicked the ball over the head of the right back leaving him standing. He cut inside, jinxed his way past two defenders before lashing the ball into the top right hand corner - the keepers despairing dive all adding to the effect.
It left spectators, players and even coaching staff struggling to do anything except applaud.
Despite this goal Morecambe were to be undone at the death. Two dubious refereeing decisions gave Blackpool the chance to load the Morecambe box and after a number of ricochets the ball fell to Forshaw who prodded the goal home from close range.
With no time for the restart it was obvious from the reaction of the Blackpool staff they had been gifted a point but the performance is one which Morecambe should build ion in coming weeks - especially with the FA Youth Cup just around the corner
