Danny Adams started his career by playing for his home town club Altrincham before being signed by Sammy McIlroy, when he was manager of Macclesfield Town for a fee of £25,000, in September 2000.
He went on to make 169 appearances for the Silkmen, scoring 2 goals. Danny moved to Stockport County in March 2003, making 43 appearances before moving on to Huddersfield Town in March of 2005. During his 20 months at The Galpharm Stadium he made 77 appearances without scoring, and his last appearance for the Yorkshire club was in the televised game against ex Conference club Yeovil Town in early January.
After being released by Huddersfield he joined Morecambe one month later to solve Sammy McIlroy's defensive crisis when Chris Blackburn was injured and Ged Brannan and Jim Bentley were suspended for the trip to Forest Green Rovers, leaving Danny Meadowcroft the only available centre back.
Adams stepped straight into the first team and helped Morecambe to a 3-1 victory over Jim Harvey's Forest Green side.
He spent the rest of the season as Morecambe's first choice left back, helping the Shrimps to success in the playoff final at Wembley.
He signed a two year contract with the Shrimps at the end of June 2007.
Upon signing he said: “I think there is a real mutual respect between Sammy and I. I think he thinks I have always done a job for him and I have a huge respect for him as a manager and a person. It is a relationship that has worked well in the past and I think it will remain that way.’’
“We like to play football and that might surprise a few teams. Although I don’t think there is a great deal of difference between the Conference and Division 2 you do have to be mentally tougher.
“I think in the Conference there are certain games where you can get something without playing well, that isn’t the case in the League. The games will be tough week in week out and we will come up against players with more experience.
“Having said that I think we will surprise a few sides this year and I am looking forward to the challenge.’’
