David Artell joined Morecambe in the Summer of 2007 on a free transfer after being released by Chester City.
He's an experienced centre half who has played more than 200 Football League games. The 6ft 3ins tall Rotherham-born player began his career at his home town club before moves to Shrewsbury, Mansfield and the Deva Stadium.
Upon his signing Sammy McIlroy commented: "He is a no nonsense defender who is extremely experienced for a 26-year-old. He has been a regular for Chester for the past two seasons and was highly rated by their fans. He is a player who knows Division 2 well which is a bonus and will be another excellent player to have around.''
Artell himself was happy to be a Morecambe played. He said: "As soon as I came here and met Sammy and the board I immediately felt at home. I started my career at my home town club Rotherham which was a lovely, friendly club and I got a very similar feeling here.
"I did have the chance to sign for a couple of other League 2 clubs and had several offers from Conference clubs but everything feels right here. Some of the clubs that I spoke to may have been struggling but I really do feel that the impetus Morecambe gained last year will continue and there is no reason why we can't cause a few shocks.''
