As Morecambe were in the midst of an injury crisis at the start of the 2004/2005 season Phil Edwards arrived on a work experience basis after Keiran Walmsley was set to serve a one match suspension due to his sending off at Barnet.

Edwards was named on the bench for Morecambe's trip to Northwich Victoria but when David Perkins came off injured it was Edwards who replaced him. The youngster had to fill in at left back, rather than his usual position of centre back, and had a steady game which saw him play for just under an hour.

Phil Edwards wasn't kept on after that game and he returned to Wigan having only made one appearance for the Shrimps.
