Profile
Michael Howard started his career as a schoolboy at Liverpool before signing for Tranmere Rovers as a trainee. After a trial at the Vetch Field he was snapped up for the Swans by then manager Alan Cork.
Howard was a regular in the Swansea side for his first five seasons at the club, with his lowest number of league starts in a season being 36. His final year saw him notch up 25 league starts for the Swans before being released at the end of the season.
The Birkenhead born player made over 250 appearances for the South Wales side before making the switch to Christie Park.
Michael found himself as first choice left back at the start of the 2004/2005 season as David Perkins moved in the centre of midfield.
As Morecambe began putting together a great run of form towards the end of the campaign, Michael made the left back position his own with a string of solid displays that saw him earn many plaudits from the Christie Park faithful.
Howards impressive form continued throughout the 2005/2006 season as he firmly established himself as first choice left back, leaving David Perkins to compete for a place in the centre of midfield.
He signed a new one year contract in the Summer of 2006.
Michael scored his first ever goal for Morecambe in January 2007 in a 5-0 win against Mangotsfield United in the FA Trophy at Christie Park.
Despite another consistent year at left back he lost his place in the side during the second half of the season when Danny Adams was brought to the club.
