Profile
Garry Hunter first broke onto the scene at Morecambe Football Club in the 2002/2003 season whilst playing in the reserve team. He finished the season as the reserves leading scorer with 20 goals from only 11 starts and 6 substitute appearances.
His goals helped Morecambe to win the reserve league and also earned him a call up to the England Colleges team where he represented his country on a number of occasions.
Hunter's impressive form in the reserves lead to him signing a full time contract at the club for the start of the 2003/2004 season. He was instantly included in Morecambe's pre season preparations with a starting place against Barrow where he scored one and set up another goal in a highly impressive performance.
Hunter continued to feature in the pre season games for the first team but found himself back in the reserves for the start of the Nationwide Conference season. He made his debut at home to Dagenham & Redbridge in August 2003 and made occasional appearances from the subs bench throughout the season.
As Morecambe's playoff hopes began to fade, Jim Harvey introduced a number of the younger players in the squad, including Hunter and he didn't fail to impress. Playing in the hole behind a lone striker the youngster proved that he has what it takes to compete at this level. Despite his excellent performances Hunter didn't score for Morecambe that season but he had gained a reputation as one of the exciting prospects breaking through into the first team along with Paul Osborne.
Hunter continued to make regular appearances in the heart of Morecambe's midfield in the 2004/2005 season and scored his first goal for the club at home to Leigh RMI with a well taken long range effort that looped over the goalkeeper. Hunter also scored live on Sky Sports as Morecambe fought back from being 3-1 down to draw the game 3-3 at Brunton Park.
Garry cemented his place as a regular at the heart of Morecambe's midfield in the 2005/2006 season and also got a call up to the England National Game squad before having to pull out due to injury.
He signed a new two year contract in the Summer of 2006.
