Paul McGuire progressed through the Morecambe youth ranks alongside John Hardiker, forming a centre back partnership that stuck together from the youth team, reserve team and finally the first team.

He made his first team debut in a 3-2 victory over Bamber Bridge in the ATS Cup on the 9th March 99.

During his time with the club McGuire operated at right back and in the centre of defence, making a big impression with the Morecambe fans.

Despite always being in the shaddow of John Hardiker, Migs always put in 100% for the club and looked like he could become a very good player and with Hardiker's departure to Stockport in January of 2002 McGuire had a perfect opportunity to secure a regular place in the side.

Unfortunately for McGuire he couldn't take his chance and with the arrivals of Iain Swan and Jim Bentley in the summer of 2002 his first team chances were minimal and he left the club to join Hyde United.
