Former Liverpool trainee Jon Newby signed for Morecambe in the Summer of 2007 after impressing in pre season whilst on trial.

He has previously played for Bury, Huddersfield, Wrexham and Southport as well as having loan spells at Carlisle, Crewe, Sheffield United, York and Kidderminster.

He was the scorer of Morecambe's first ever goal in the Football League when he struck in the 56th minute during a 2-1 defeat at Wrexham on the 18th of August 2007.
