Wolverhampton born O'Connor first came to Jim Harvey's attention during 2000 when he made a number of appearances for Hednesford Town before being snapped up by Dundee United in March 2002 for a reported fee of £30,000. The 6" 3" striker had a couple of loan spells whilst with the Tannadice Park outfit, going over to Ireland and playing for Portadown and he also spent 6 months at Greenock Morton.
However after impressing during his loan spell at Morton, Queen of the South paid out £10,000 to secure the services of the strong running striker. During his two seasons at Palmerston Park, he was a regular scorer and a crowd favorite. None more so than when his two goals at Motherwell in the Scottish Cup nearly brought about a remarkable recovery. At the start of the 2003/2004 season Queen of the South were asking in the region of £50,000 for his transfer, but Morecambe secured his services from Queen of the South for nothing a year later.
O'Connor started the season in the first team at Exeter City where he had a superbly taken goal disallowed for a dubious offside decision. He then played the first 45 minutes in the following game at home to Accrington Stanley but he had to be replaced due to injury at half time.
Sean spent the rest of the season on the sidelines but began to ease his way back into the first team action in the 2005/2006 season. Injuries plagued the big front runner, so much so that he only made 11 starts for the club, 7 of those being in the Nationwide Conference. Sean scored 6 goals for the club, 2 of those being in his final appearance against Daisy Hill in the Lancashire Cup before being released a week after the arrival of Stuart Barlow to Christie Park.
