CARLISLE UTD 0-2 MORECAMBE

13 October 2018

MORECAMBE returned to winning ways with an excellent win at Brunton Park.

First half goals from A-Jay Leitch-Smith and Vadaine Oliver earned the Shrimps only a second win in 17 games against the Cumbrians.

Shrimps’ boss Jim Bentley was able to name the same side that lost to Tranmere last week with several players coming through fitness tests.

Morecambe took the lead in the 13th minute through Leitch-Smith.

The Shrimps’ striker worked an opening for himself in the box and saw his first shot saved by Adam Collin only for the ball to rebound into his path and give him the chance to score at the second attempt.

Carlisle hit back and thought they had levelled on 19 minutes when Ashley Nadesan’s header from Jerry Yates’s left wing cross and they were then denied by a superb Barry Roche save from Richie Bennett’s close range.

But as the home side began the threaten the Shrimps added a second when Oliver made it two goals from two games with a free header from Liam Mandeville’s corner.

The game then swung from end to end with Morecambe creating chances on the counter with Leitch-Smith firing into the side netting and Liam Mandeville forcing Collin into a decent save.

Carlisle continued to have the greater share of the possession with Yates constantly looking to work an opening but it wasn’t until the final 20 minutes that the home side burst into life when Liam McCarron came on down the right.

The youngster used his pace to good effect but despite some decent deliveries the Shrimps defence stayed firm as they kept a confidence boosting clean sheet.
