TEAM NEWS V SWINDON TOWN

8 September 2018

JIM Bentley has named his side to face Swindon Town this afternoon.

Skipper Barry Roche is in goal for the Shrimps behind an unchanged back four from the defeat at Bury last Saturday.

Steve Old and Josef Yarney play at centre half between Zak Mills and Luke Conlan either side at right and left full back.

Andrew Fleming and Aaron Wildig remain in central midfield with Rhys Oates and Liam Mandeville in the wide areas.

A-Jay Leitch-Smith returns from his knee injury to support centre forward Vadaine Oliver who returns to the side after his midweek goal at Brunton Park.

Dawid Szczepaniak returns to the substitutes bench after Mark Halstead suffered his hip injury in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Carlisle. The young polish stopper is accompanied by Jordan Cranston, Sam Lavelle, Ben Hedley, Jason Oswell, Kevin Ellison and Joe Piggott.

MORECAMBE 0-1 SWINDON TOWN

8 September 2018

MORECAMBE went down to their sixth defeat of the season with a 1-0 defeat to ten-man Swindon.

Elijah Adebayo’s first-half finish, and second goal in as many games, was enough to give the visitors the victory despite Kyle Knoyle being sent off on 35 minutes for a tackle on Aaron Wildig.

Morecambe started brightly and Vadaine Oliver headed over at full stretch before A-Jay Leitch-Smith failed to find Oliver when he robbed a Swindon defender of possession.

Morecambe’s bright start was undone on 25 minutes when Marc Richards held the ball up, turned and slipped Adebayo in. The Fulham loanee held his run fantastically and coolly slotted past Barry Roche in the Shrimps goal.

Morecambe were rocked but their hopes improved when Knoyle caught Aaron Wildig high and referee, Paul Marsden didn’t hesitate in pulling out the red card.

The Shrimps then held the upper hand with Sid Nelson sliding in to thwart Leitch-Smith before Luke McCormick somehow palmed Liam Mandeville’s shot away from goal.

Morecambe were forced to change their shirts to their blue away kit for the second half as the red and black of both sides matched too much but their performance seemed to change too.

Chances were few and far between with both sides struggling to really create anything clear cut.

Swindon then created two great chances to expand their lead.

Adebayo spun his man but this time he couldn’t beat Roche – McGlashan was next to go close but Roche was quick off his line to deny the substitute.

McCormick was called into action numerous times in the final 20 minutes – he had to stop Jason Oswell’s header late on and with the ball loose Sid Nelson was on-hand to scoop the ball clear and the Shrimps’ frustrating season continued.

Morecambe: Roche, Mills, Yarney, Old, Conlan, Wildig, Fleming (rep Oswell 82), Mandeville, Oates (rep Piggott 69), Leitch-Smith (rep Ellison 77), Oliver. Subs not used: Szczepaniak, Hedley, Cranston, Lavelle.
