CRAWLEY TOWN 1-1 MORECAMBE

16 November 2019

Cole Stockton earned the Shrimps a valuable point at Crawley as Derek Adams continues his unbeaten start as Morecambe boss.

Bez Lubala opened the scoring, scoring from 12 yards right on half time after Tom Brewitt's challenge resulted in a penalty for the hosts.

Cole Stockton equalised as the game entered the final 10 minutes, a half-cleared Shrimps corner was worked back into the penalty area by Brewitt for Stockton to finish convincingly in front of the 98 travelling Morecambe fans.

The Shrimps started brightly, creating three clear chances in the opening 10 minutes.

Lewis Alessandra found Cole Stockton after beating his man on the left side, Stockton then played a superb ball behind Crawley's left back for George Tanner who was 1v1 with the centre half. Tanner did well to fire near post for Crawley keeper, Morris, to tip wide for a corner.

Minutes late, Alessandra again found a pass into Aaron Wildig who drove towards goal at an acute angle, however, the midfielder's far post effort just flashed past the post.

Wildig then turned provider in the 10th minute when he nodded down Luke Conlan's clipped ball into the penalty area, Stockton's first touch took the ball just behind the foreword's path resulting in an improvised shot, which went out off the outside of the post.

Crawley had chances of their own and came close when Lubala whipped a free-kick towards the bottom corner, which was pushed away by Mark Halstead.

When the half looked destined to end 0-0 after settling down from the early Shrimps' onslaught, David Sesay was brought down by Tom Brewitt on the right side of the penalty area. Lubala stepped and calmly rolled the ball into the bottom corner from the penalty spot.

After a hard fought second half, Alessandra's 80th minute corner was clear as far as Luke Conlan who played a sideways pass to George Tanner, who found Alessandra wide right. Alessandra slipped the ball to Tom Brewitt who had made a good run wide opening space behind him for Stockton to move into. Brewitt's ball to the near post was perfect for Stockton to fire home and earn Derek Adams a point in his first league game in charge.
