Late goals sink Shrimps

Morecambe 1
Port Vale 3

FOR the second time in a week the Shrimps were undone by a late goal at the Globe.
With the game finely poised McCombe gave the visitors the advantage two minutes from time when he nipped in front of his marker to head a Sam Morsy corner past Barry Roche.
Tom Pope then made things safe two minutes into injury time with a goal from close range after the Valiants took advantage of Morecambe pushing bodies forward for an equaliser.
The game ended as badly as it started for Jim Bentley's side as they were a goal down after just 14 seconds when Sam Morsy slotted the ball into the from the edge of the box after Barry Roche had saved from Louis Dodds.
Dodds then went close to a second with a shot from the edge of the area that went inches wide.
Morecambe's first effort of note came on 28 minutes when Richard Brodie dragged a shot wide but four minutes later they were level when Kevin Ellison scored his first of the season with a neat left foot finish after beating Doug Loft.
The second half started with the Shrimps grateful to goalkeeper Roche for saving superbly from Ashley Vincent when he raced through on goal.
But from there Morecambe looked the more threatening with former North End keeper Chris Neal saving smartly from Brodie and Lewis Alessandra drilling a low shot wide.
As the Shrimps chased victory they were undone at the death when McCombe put his side ahead with Pope adding a third.
