Bentley agrees with postponement

Pitch was unplayable says boss

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley agreed with the referee's decision to call off Saturday's game with Dagenham at the Globe Arena.

The pitch failed an 11am pitch inspection on Saturday after persistent rainfall overnight caused one of a string of postponements across the country in League 1 and 2.

Bentley also felt the postponement would be beneficial to side for their game against Fleetwood on Boxing Day.

He said: “You want to play all the time and we’re on a decent run at home but we’ve had a quite a few niggles in the camp over the last week.”.

“Kevin Ellison has been unwell and Nick Fenton and Jordan Mustoe are nursing knocks from the Oxford game.

“They’d all have been fit to play Dagenham but it gives them an extra couple of days to recover.

“The pitch was pretty bad after the game on Wednesday against Man United’s reserves and it was borderline on Friday.

“With all the rain early on Saturday it was definitely unplayable.”
