Excellent win for the Shrimps
Chesterfield also should have scored on 16 minutes when Neal Trotman had a free header from a Westcarr corner but he missed the target with his final effort by quite some way. The second half saw the Spireites fail to trouble their former keeper Barry Roche as the Shrimps defended superbly to keep a welcome clean sheet.
Chesterfield started the game brightly with Craig Westcarr stabbing an early effort just wide of the left hand post after the ball broke free in the Morecambe box and the same player forced Barry Roche into a neat save after a slip from defender Robbie Threlfall gave him a free run on goal.
The Shrimps had a number of chances to add a third with Brodie denied a goal by a superb covering block from Sam Hird while Andy Fleming and McDonald went close in the final stages as Chesterfield pushed bodies forward in search of a goal.
Front man Brodie was the provider again for Morecambe’s second on 52 minutes. Again he got the better of Terrell Forbes to provide the perfect chance for Lewis Alessandra to volley past O’Donnell from close range.
Gary McDonald gave Morecambe the lead in first half injury time. Richard Brodie delivered a cross from the left hand byline and McDonald sneaked in behind his marker at the far post to volley past Richard O’Donnell from six yards out.
After three successive defeats the Shrimps produced a fine performance to beat a side who had been unbeaten since caretaker boss Tommy Wright took over from John Sheridan earlier in the season.
MORECAMBE recorded their first home win of the season with an excellent victory over in form Chesterfield.
