Redshaw double lifts Shrimps

JACK Redshaw was the star of the show as he scored twice against his former club to give the Shrimps one of their best victories of the season.

minute strike.rdRedshaw scored a goal in either half to inspire the Shrimps to victory although they did have to withstand some late Rochdale pressure after they were given a lift through George Donnelly’s 73

After missing an early chance Redshaw fired the Shrimps into the lead in the ninth minute after running on to an excellent Kevin Ellison lay off before firing past Josh Lillis.

From there the Shrimps threatened on several occasions with Andy Fleming and Kevin Ellison forcing saves from Josh Lillis and Ellison seeing a shot brilliantly blocked by Phil Edwards.

At the other end Rochdale struggled to break a spirited Morecambe defence but almost levelled in injury time when another dangerous Rafferty cross was diverted inches past his own post by Will Haining.

The Shrimps started the second half on the front foot with Alessandra getting in behind the Rochdale defence but producing an awful first touch.

The home side hit back with Adebola testing Roche again after running past Nick Fenton and Andrew Tutte shooting inches over from the edge of the box.

Redshaw calmed the nerves with a cool finish at the far post from another Ellison lay off on 65 minutes for his second of the game.

But Rochdale fought back bravely and were given a loft when Donnelly diverted the loose ball past Roche from six yards out on 73 minutes and the same player should have levelled the scores on 80 minutes when he weaved his way into the box but failed to hit the target from close range.
