Senior Cup win for Morecambe

MORECAMBE sealed a Lancashire Senior Cup clash with Manchester United at the Globe Arena after beating Preston North End on penalties at Springfields this afternoon.
Two strong sides fought out a 1-1 draw with the Shrimps winning the game 3-2 on penalties to seal the tie with United.
The Shrimps were on the defensive for much of the first half with Preston looking to take advantage of the strong wind behind them. But North End were denied on several occasions by Andreas Arestidou who had an excellent game against his former club, making a string of fine saves.
Morecambe came into the game more in the second half and Richard Brodie fired them into the lead after a neat finish.
Both sides then wasted good openings before Preston levelled with 10 minutes to go when Will Hayhurst scored.
The game then moved into penalties with Andy Wright and Richard Brodie scoring Morecambe's first two kicks. Arestidou made a great save to block North End's first penalty but thet scored the second to make it 2-1. Will Haining then missed and Preston scored to make it 2-2. Izak Reid kept his cool to make it 3-2 and North End missed again to seal a 3-2 spot kick win for the Shrimps.
Boss Jim Bentley said: "It was a big game for both teams and both fielded really strong sides. It was a really competitive fixture and I delighted with the result.''
