Shrimps maintain unbeaten away run
MORECAMBE maintained their unbeaten away run with a rare goalless draw against Aldershot.
In a game of few chances the Shrimps almost secured victory at the death when substitute Izak Reid saw a close range effort cleared off the line and Richard Brodie forced Jamie Young into his first save note as Jim Bentley’s side ended the game on top.
Aldershot had the better of the chances of the first half with Craig Reid twice getting in behind the Morecambe defence but twice being denied by keeper Barry Roche.
Reid first went through on eight minutes after Will Haining lost possession but his shot was well saved by the Morecambe keeper. Then on 38 he was through again but he scuffed his shot allowing Roche to save with his legs.
Morecambe started brightly with Jack Redshaw forging a good opening after a fine run that took him to the edge of the Aldershot box but his final shot was well over the bar.
Jordan Burrow was played through by a swift Roche clearance but the youngster dragged his shot come cross well wide of the right hand post.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with few clear chances.
Aldershot started on the front foot with Roche making another fine save to tip away an Adam Mekki shot from the edge of the area and the visitors were indebted to a late clearance from Robbie Threlfall as an Aldershot header looked set to be heading for the top corner.
