Heavy derby day defeat for Shrimps

Experienced striker Parkin grabbed the headlines with his three goals for his new club.

Morecambe's disappointing home form continued with a heavy defeat in their first ever Football League meeting with near rivals Fleetwood.

Fleetwood striker Jon Parkin was Fleetwood's star man with a hat-trick with Barry Nicholson adding a late fourth to round a poor afternoon for the Shrimps who were second best throughout.

Barry Nicholson capped off a fine afternoon for the Cod Army with a fourth goal six minutes from time when Parkin turned provider with a far post cross which was headed past Roche by the onrushing midfielder.

Morecambe struggled to create too many clear cut chances. Nick Fenton headed over in the first half before Will Haining tested former Shrimps' keeper Scott Davies from distance.

The second half only produced one effort of note for the Shrimps as Jack Redshaw's near post flock was superbly tipped away by Davies on a 

disappointing day for the Shrimps.
