Entertaining draw at the Globe

MORECAMBE RES 2

WALSALL RES 2

THE Reserves ended their home season with an excellent draw against Walsall.

Walsall took a 2-1 lead into the break with a quickfire double before the break but the Shrimps dominated the second half and created more than enough chances to have won the game comfortably.

Alex Davison headed the visitors into the lead on 39 minutes from a left wing corner. Jacob Hobbins produced an excellent delivery and Davison nipped ahead of Andreas Arestidou to head home.

Three minutes later the Saddlers doubled their lead when Reid was left in acres of space in the Morecambe box to slot an effort past the helpless Arestidou.

The Shrimps fired their way back into the game in first half injury time. Walsall keeper Liam Roberts produced a fine save low to his left but Joe Mwasile was in the perfect place to stab home the rebound for his first goal of the season for the Reserves.

The second half began with Morecambe on the front foot.

Ryan Williams show a fierce low shot superbly saved by Walsall keeper Roberts low to his right before the visiting keeper did well moments later to hold on to a decent effort from Joe McGee.

Joe Jackson was the next to go close with a shot from just inside the box after an excellent run that flew just over the bar and the same player forced Roberts into a neat tip over with a fine shot from the edge of the box.

Roberts was beaten on 71 minutes by a looping Chris Doyle header but the ball came back off the crossbar as the Shrimps dominated.

The pressure paid off on 80 minutes when the Shrimps equalised. Chris Doyle took a quick free kick which found Mwasile and his lob across goal was headed home by youngster James Riley.

The goal gave Walsall a lift and Amaron Makayoko had a great chance to put the visitors ahead on 82 minutes but his close range shot was superbly saved by Arestidou.

Jackson had a golden chance to win it for the Shrimps on 88 minutes when played in superbly by Ryan Williams bit he blazed over the bar when he should have done much better.

Jackson then had an injury time goal disallowed for offside as the Shrimps ended the game in the ascendancy.
