Boss focusing on Torquay

8 August 2013

League is our main priority says Bentley

SHRIMPS' boss Jim Bentley said his side must put their cup exploits to the back of their minds and focus on Torquay on Saturday.
Bentley said he was delighted by the draw which will see Newcastle visit the Globe Arena in the second round of the Capital One Cup in a couple of weeks but has his mind set firmly on the Gulls' visit on Saturday.
He said: "Tuesday night was a great occasion and the thought of Newcastle coming to the Globe is a mouthwatering one but the league is our bread and butter and we must be in the right frame of mind for Saturday's game.
"The league is our main focus and after last Saturday's defeat at Wycombe we are all working hard and determined to get our first points of the season.
"We were excellent on Tuesday and we set a standard that we need to look to maintain. Our games with Torquay are always close encounters and Alan Knill is a very experienced manager at this level who will no doubt have his side well organised and keen to repeat their success here only a couple of months ago.
"One thing that really impressed me on Tuesday was the atmosphere. The fans were brilliant and it really made all the difference. The lads thrived on the support they were getting and it would be fantastic to have that level of support week in week out to cheer us on and provide the perfect finish to a memorable week.''
