Chairman praises fans

11 August 2013

A message from Peter McGuigan

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our supporters who attended on Tuesday evening. The vocal support was simply outstanding and I am sure that Jim and the boys appreciated such a strong level of support.
The fact that the match was televised live on Sky was an added bonus and we have received many texts and emails from around the world congratulating us not only on the victory but also the manner in which it was gained.
Jim and the team have certainly put Morecambe FC and the town of Morecambe on the map once again.
I would like to think that every Morecambe supporter present on Tuesday night will have left the Globe Arena in a very positive frame of mind. I am convinced that if we can replicate the atmosphere throughout the season we will undoubtedly do ourselves justice and surprise a few on the way.
I would ask therefore that each supporter present on Tuesday night tries to bring a friend, work colleague or family member with them to a future game that will ensure crowds in excess of 2,000 which I believe is what this town can do for the Club.
There are a number of initiatives we are taking in an attempt to increase the home attendance whilst at the same time targeting the younger generation as the future of this football club. In partnership with Centrica Energy and a number of local high schools we have offered each and every student starting year 11 in September the opportunity to watch every home league 2 game absolutely free of charge.
There are over 1,200 vouchers allocated to these schools and we sincerely hope they are all redeemed.
Coupled with the incentive of free entry for up to three under 14's with each paying adult already granted to 13-14 season ticket holders, as well as fans who choose to pay on the day, we are certainly doing all we can for the future supporters of Morecambe Football Club.
We will shortly announce details of a scheme aimed at local football clubs, schools and charities whereby each organisation will sell tickets to their members for which the Club will make a donation to that organisation, helping to improve the facilities available to the local community. Of course it will be made much easier if the team is performing well but it is a vicious circle, in that improved attendances generate additional income that can be used to strengthen the squad.
So we all have our part to play in the development of your Club and I would once again ask you all as supporters of this Club to do your best to promote the Club amongst your family, friends and colleagues.
We must all task ourselves with recreating the atmosphere of Tuesday night at each and every game played at the Globe Arena this season.
