Bentley hopes for better weekend

Jim looking for response

SHRIMPS' boss Jim Bentley said his side fell "just short'' in Saturday's defeat to Cheltenham.

After Troy Brown’s 80th minute goal gave the Robins all three points at the Globe Arena Bentley said: “Unfortunately we just dipped below that fine dividing line.

“Some of our play was very good today, we looked threatening and created a couple of chances as did they and when called upon Baz (Barry Roche) has been decent.

“But they came out in the second half and just turned the screw a little bit.

“They’re one of the fancied sides for me and are on a decent run of late.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game but we had a go and I just think second half they got on top and built momentum.

“They just had a little more know-how than us today because they’ve got that experience and a bench to call on with the likes of (Jamie) Cureton, (Terry) Gornell and three new loan signings who have just freshened it up for them.”

The Shrimps were left to rue a missed Stewart Drummond header minutes before the winning goal that could have seen the game end very differently.

Bentley said: “The best move was when we broke down the right and Amond chipped a great cross in and Drummy should score.

“He’ll be absolutely gutted but it’s one of those things. If we get that we’re 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go and it’s a whole different ball game and for me you don’t lose from there.

“But they got up the other end and we gave a silly foul away, invited the ball into the box, didn’t defend the first phase well enough and Brown has gambled well and got a tap in from five yards.”
