Furness Affinity Account

5 December 2013

Shrimps boss urges supporters to make their own vital save for the club

MORECAMBE FC is urging its supporters to give a boost to its fund-raising affinity savings account with Furness Building Society and generate cash to help with the development of young players.

The special account has the potential to raise tens of thousands of pounds each year for Morecambe FC without the supporters having to spend a penny of their own money.

All they need to do is save in the special Morecambe FC easy access account, and the Furness makes an annual payment from its own funds based on 1% of the total deposits.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley says the account is a ‘win-win’ for the club and its supporters. He said: “All fans who open an account will be helping the club as well as themselves.

“The interest rate paid to the saver is 0.5% Gross AER which is competitive for easy access accounts and the Furness make a payment of 1% of the total amount in all of the Morecambe FC accounts to the club which is a great result.

“We’ve decided that the money raised by the account will go into the Youth Academy and Development Centres – so what the supporters are really investing in is the future of the club, and the dreams of all the young people who love football as much as they do.”

Ian Quayle, Partnerships and Affinities Manager at the Furness, said: “Last year we gave more than £360,000 to our affinity partners and this year we hope that the Shrimps supporters will help us to meet our goal of making a big payment to their club.”

He added: “We make it easy for supporters to open accounts and get access to their savings.

"They can go into our local agents Wright & Lord whose offices are at 53 Princes Crescent, Bare, Morecambe or call into our branch in Lancaster.  Alternatively you can call Furness Direct on 0800 834312 or log onto our website www.furnessbs.co.uk/morecambefc  to open and manage an account on-line.''

Morecambe FC has put in place a new advertisement at the Globe Stadium to remind supporters about the special account, and the management team turned out to officially present the board with Ian and Lynne Lord, Kay Murray and Kirstie Horne from local agents Wright & Lord.
