Back us on Tuesday says boss

Bentley urges fans to support FREE game

Jim Bentley is urging local fans to take advantage of the free entry offer for Tuesday's re-arranged game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Shrimps boss believes it is a well-deserved reward for the Morecambe fans, whilst also hoping that it can lead to increased attendances in the future.

Bentley said: “I think it’s a good idea. Hopefully it will bring the community together and it’s a thank you to the fans.”

He added: “I want to see a good couple of thousand here, similar to the Bradford game, the same atmosphere, get behind the team and hopefully we can put the ball in the back of the onion bag a couple of times and get them cheering and shouting.

“I think we’ve got the second lowest [attendance] in the league average wise. I should imagine we have got the smallest squad, so we need the town to get behind us.

“Hopefully they’ll come back as paying customers and as a community get behind the club that little bit more and hopefully we’ll improve and go from strength to strength.”

Bentley believes the club will continue to grow with increased attendances, but he is proud of his players in what is a difficult spell.

He said: “We need people to back us. It would be great to have an atmosphere like that [against Bradford], but we need bums on seats to get finances into the club.

“Everyone is feeling the pinch, we’re no different and as it stands we are just in a little bit of a sticky situation because we don’t have the bodies that we’d like.”

He added: “But what we proved today [against Bradford] is that I’ve got a set of lads who will run through brick walls for me and give it their all.”
