Williams the hero again
It could have been even better for the Shrimps as seconds later, Izak Reid clipped the top of the crossbar with a powerful strike from just inside the penalty area.
The Reds were to take the lead just 10 minutes later. Adrian Cieslewicz skipped his way into the penalty area and squared for former Northampton player Kevin Thornton who poked the ball home from close range. Leon Clowes was close to doubling the advantage moments later as his flicked header from a corner fell just wide of the post which brought the first half to a close.
With the second half barely a minute old, Morecambe found themselves back on level terms. Captain Joe McGee picked the ball up from just outside the penalty box and lashed home a shot giving Louis Gray no chance.
Cieslewicz had a great chance to put Wrexham back in front on the hour mark. The winger charged into the opposition box without a defender in sight but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
Jamie Morton looked to have won the game with 15 minutes left on the clock. The youngster cut past Morecambe’s Matthew Knipe before powering his shot into the bottom corner, a real moment of class.
Strong defending from Louis Morrison-Derbyshire who was making his first appearance for the club looked to have helped Wrexham secure the win until Williams showed another moment of class.
