Shrimps sign Diagne

5 June 2013

Boss delighted to land defender

THE Shrimps have this evening completed the signing of defender Tony Diagne.

The giant 22-year-old, who can play anywhere along the back line, has signed on a two year deal from Conference side Macclesfield.

Born near Paris he came to England to join Nottingham Forest before being signed by Macclesfield in 2011 for whom he played close to 80 times.

Boss Jim Bentley says he is delighted to have secured the signature of a player who he rates extremely highly.

He said: "I have watched him closely and always liked him. For a young lad he has played a lot of first team football and can play in several positions which is something we are looking for.

"I know there were a few clubs that were looking at him so I am really pleased that he has chosen Morecambe and I am sure he will do well for us.''

Tony said: "I am really glad to be playing in the Football League again and I was really impressed with what the manager said to me.

"I am looking forward to moving to the area and can't wait for pre season to start.''
