Shrimps to face Motherwell in pre season

26 June 2013

Prestigious friendly for July 20th

MORECAMBE FC has today clinched a prestigious pre season friendly against last season's Scottish Premier League runners-up Motherwell at the Globe Arena.

The Shrimps will play Stuart McCall's side on Saturday 20th July in a game that kicks off at 2pm.

The Fir Park side, managed by former Bradford, Everton and Sheffield United midfielder Stuart McCall, are off the back of one of their most celebrated seasons in recent memory.

The club built on their ‘best of the rest’ finish in 2011/12 with a SPL runners-up spot in 2012/13, finishing the season with a record points total, a goals return not seen since the 1950s, the league’s PFA Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner and four players in the PFA Team of the Year.

The Steelmen also made their first ever appearance ever in the UEFA Champions League when they faced Greek side Panathinaikos before a Europa League clash with La Liga outfit Levante U.D.

Their second place in the league last term will return them to Europa League action for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

Shrimps’ boss Jim Bentley said he was delighted to secure the match.

He said: “This is a fantastic fixture for us against really tough opponents.

“Motherwell had a great season last year and will hopefully be a big draw for our fans who will come out in numbers to watch a side who are playing in Europe this year.’’
