Youngsters go down fighting

A YOUNG Morecambe Reserve team produced a good performance but went down 3-1 to a strong Rotherham side in the Central League Cup this afternoon.

The young Morecambe team played extremely well in the first half and kept the ball exceptionally well against their more experienced opponents but the quality of Nardiello’s finishing was clear for all to see as he scored twice to give Rotherham a 2-0 lead at the break.
A brace from Daniel Nardiello and a further strike from Kieran Agard sealed the victory with James Riley scoring the Shrimps’ consolation after a bad back pass.

The youngsters tired in the second half and Agard made it 3-0 before Riley scored a deserved Morecambe goal.

The Millers fielded a mixture of professionals and academy prospects, with the likes of Wales international Craig Morgan and Kayode Odejayi also gaining some match time for the opponents.

Reserve team boss Stewart Drummond said the young side could be pleased with their efforts. He said: “Rotherham fielded a really experienced team with some first team regulars in there so the young lad can be really proud of their performances.

“They kept the ball really well at times and certainly made Rotherham work for the win.’’
