Shrimps suffer another away defeat

MORECAMBE suffered a third successive away defeat when two goals in seven first half minutes gave Wimbledon the three points.

Kevin Sainte-Luce and a Jack Midson penalty saw the Shrimps suffer a controversial defeat in a game where a string of decisions went against the Shrimps.

Morecambe started the game well and played some neat football in the early stages with Andy Fleming missing a glorious chance on 25 minutes and Jack Redshaw de nied a shot on goal by a superb covering tackle by Alan Bennett.

Wimbledon did test Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche for the first time in the 22ndminute. Luke Moore sent over a teasing cross and Bennett met the ball with a header that Barry Roche could only parry, but the ball was cleared to safety. Wimbledon had been forced back into their own half for long spells of the first 30 minutes and their best chance of making an impression appeared to be from set-pieces. Chris Hussey picked out Jack Midson with a long and searching free-kick, but the striker headed straight into the grateful arms of Roche.

However, the Wimbledon faithful never had to wait too much longer for the opener with Kevin Sainte-Luce notching his second goal for the club in great style. Luke Moore started a sweeping move with a defence-splitting pass to pick out Gary Alexander and his cross was steered home at the back post by Sainte-Luce.

It got even better for Wimbledon five minutes later when they doubled their advantage through a Midson penalty after a harsh back pass decision against Robbie Threlfall.

From the resulting free kick Andy Wright handled Gary Alexander’s drive and Midson stepped up to send Roche the wrong way from the spot.

Wimbledon made a half-time change with Sainte-Luce departing and he was replaced by Stacy Long. The Dons were almost celebrating the cushion of a third goal five minutes after the break when Will Antwi’s towering header from a Chris Hussey corner was cleared off the line by Fleming.

The Shrimps produced some late moments of threat with Jordan Burow’s looping header forcing John Sullivan to tip over before the substitute shot horribly wide when played in Redshaw as the Shrimps drew a blank.
