Fine away win for Shrimps

MORECAMBE returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over in-form Burton Albion.
A deflected goal from Ryan Williams was enough to give the Shrimps a well earned victory .
Morecambe held the advantage at the break thanks to a deflected goal from Ryan Williams.
Kevin Ellison tried his luck from 20 yards and the ball came off the back of Williams and swerved past the flat footed home keeper Jordan Pickford.
The home side, who came into the game on the back of three successive wins, started the brighter and could have taken the lead on six minutes when Adam McGurk deflected a low cross from Chris Hussey against the post when he should have scored.
Morecambe hit the woodwork themselves when Jack Sampson diverted Ellison’s cross against the left hand post as Jim Bentley’s side looked to get back in the game.
The second half began with  both sides having chances in quick succession.
Andy Fleming forced Jordan Pickford into a superb save low to his left before Billy Kee tested Barry Roche at the other end with a shot from 25 yards.
Chances then proved to be rare as the game was taken over by a series of scrappy bookings before Burton lost on loan Preston defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff in the final minute of normal time when he was given a second yellow card.
The Shrimps were lifted in the final stages of the game when Jack Redshaw was brought into the action for the first time this season as the Shrimps held on for a fine win.
