Striker set for face Stanley
SHRIMPS' boss Jim Bentley is hoping striker Jack Sampson will be fit for Saturday's derby with Accrington Stanley at the Globe.
Sampson missed the defeat at Cheltenham after was knocked out followed a clash of heads with AFC Wimbledon’s Barry Fuller last Saturday.
The youngster’s head injury is being checked every day with Shrimps boss Jim Bentley hoping he will be involved in this weekend’s Lancashire derby.
Bentley said: “He’s down for non-contact training today (Thursday).
“You’ve got to assess him every day with the head injury for up to a month just in case he starts feeling it a little, being sick or anything like that when he exerts himself but it’s so far, so good.
“He’s showed no ill affects, so hopefully he’s going to be in contention and will be back in on Saturday.”
Bentley will however be without suspended captain Mark Hughes with the Shrimps boss believing the former Accrington player can count himself unlucky to be ruled out against his former club.
Bentley said: “He’d been on four bookings so when he got his first we knew he was going to be suspended.
“But I never ever thought it was a booking. I thought it was a foul on him. They’ve rolled over together and got up and gone off their separate ways.
“So to come over and book him was silly in my opinion.
“But it is what it is, he’s suspended, we’ll have to go without him and he’s a big miss.
“We’ll have a couple of options of what to do with players and formations.
“We are depleted and we knew we’d have sticky spells throughout the season but I’m really looking forward to the game.
“I’m ready and raring to go and I’ll make sure they’re firing on all cylinders to give it their best shot and hopefully we can give the Morecambe fans who turn up on Saturday something to sing about.
