Boss happy with scrappy win

"It's nice to win ugly''

BOSS Jim Bentley admitted it was nice to see his side win ugly after victory over Plymouth.

Speaking after the win Bentley said: “I’m delighted with the result. Football wise, we’ll probably play better and lose.

“What we showed today was the ugly side of the game.

“There was a swirling wind and they had it in the first half and put long balls into our box, and were the better side to be fair.

“We didn’t really string two or three passes together unfortunately and we got caught up a little bit with them knocking the long ball and were a little bit direct ourselves.

“It’s not great but I was pleased to go in on level terms at half time because it was a silly foul for the penalty but what a response within 10 seconds, and that typifies what the team is all about with the spirit and desire.

“We ground it out in the end, it wasn’t nice, it wasn’t pretty, but that’s football for you.

“How many times have I stood here and said we’ve played fantastically and lost the game?

“It was a poor game, a little bit boring at times but Podge (Amond) has popped up with a late winner and I’m pleased for him, he took it really well and that’s what’s won us the game.”

Bentley added: “It’s six points in a week with a good night and performance against Newcastle, so it’s a good week for the football club and the town and we’ll give ourselves a bit of time before a difficult game at Southend next week.”
