Shrimps climb to fourth

THE Shrimps made it four wins on the trot with this fine victory at Rodney Parade.
For the second week in succession Jim Bentley's side came from behind to pick up another excellent three points.
The Shrimps found themselves a goal down after just two minutes when a right wing cross was met by Billy Jones who hammered a left foot shot past Barry Roche from 12 yards out.
Morecambe fought back straight away however and were level on 11 minutes through an own goal. Kevin Ellison headed Jack Sampson's cross into the danger area and Tom Naylor diverted the ball past his own keeper Lenny Pidgeley.
Play swung from end to end and the Shrimps went behind for a second time on 23 minutes when they gave the ball away cheaply and Robbie Willmott produced a fine finish to score from a shot that went in off the crossbar.
Newport could have extended their lead but Barry Roche pulled off two fine saves and after the break the Shrimps looked a much more effective outfit.
They were helped again by the unfortunate Naylor who gave the Shrimps a helping hand with a second own goal when he headed a deep Tony Diagne cross past his own keeper on 57 minutes.
The goal gave the Shrimps a lift and they scored a winner from the penalty spot after a foul by Naylor on Kevin Ellison and Padraig Amond made no mistake from the spot to earn the three points to lift the Shrimps to fourth in the table.
