Shrimps extend unbeaten run

MORECAMBE extended their unbeaten run with a solid draw at Northampton.
In a game of few chances the Shrimps came closest to taking the points when a Mark Hughes second half header was cleared off the line by Darren Carter.
The first half saw few clear cut chances.
The best fell to Northampton’s 16-year-old debutant striker Ivan Toney on 14 minutes. A Chris Hackett shot was deflected into Toney’s path eight yards out but he turned the ball wide from eight yards out when he should have done better.
Toney then headed a deep cross wide of the right hand post before Morecambe began to threaten the home goal themselves.
Midfielder Alex Kenyon forced Matt Duke into the first save of the game just after the half hour with a low shot from the edge of the box and Kevin Ellison then went close with a left foot effort from 20 yards that curled inches wide.
The half ended with Roy O’Donovan’s overhead kick fly wide of the left hand post before Ellison went close again with a shot that fizzed over the bar with almost the last kick of the half. Morecambe were the dominant side for much of the second half but failed to test Duke.
Ryan Williams curled an effort from distance wide and then failed to get in a shot on goal after a chance arose as his hesitation allowed home side the chance to clear.
