Shrimps bow out of Senior Cup
MORECAMBE bowed out of the Lancashire Senior Cup at the first hurde after losing to Blackpool this afternoon.
Padraig Amond twice levelled the scores for the Shrimps after goals from Dom Telford and Ishmael Miller before Steven Davies struck the winner for the Seasiders on the hour mark.
After a quiet opening 20 minutes, a touch of quality from Andrea Orlandi put Blackpool in the driving seat. The Spaniard made huge strides forward before sending Telford through, and the 17-year-old was coolness personified, rounding the keeper and firing into the empty net.
The hosts were momentarily level when Amond capitalised on a Charles Dunne error to fire home, but Pool were back in front moments later.
In a carbon copy move to Telford’s goal, Miller dispossessed his marker, rounded the goalkeeper and fired home.
The goals kept on coming however, this time it was The Shrimps who drew level once again, with Amond firing home his second of the game into the top corner.
From there the goals dried up, Orlandi tried his luck but saw his effort saved by Andreas Arestidou, before Tom Barkhuizen shot straight at the stopper.
After the interval Davies flashed an effort across goal, while Amond just missed out on his hat-trick when he shot wide of Ell Parish’s goal.
Dunne then attempted to atone for his earlier error, but headed Orlandi’s corner into the ground and wide.
Telford was next to try his luck, curling over the bar, before Davies failed to make proper contact on Miller’s cross.
On the hour mark Blackpool finally got themselves back in front. Following some good industry from Barkhuizen, Davies made no mistake this time, smashing home the loose ball to make it 3-2.
Morecambe were still creating opportunities however, Parish had to be at his best to thwart Amond, while Aaron McGowan drilled an effort wide as the Shrimps searched in vain for a third leveller.
