Redshaw scores twice to give Shrimps three points against struggling Hartlepool

JACK Redshaw scored twice to give the Shrimps three points against struggling Hartlepool.

The striker was one of six changes made by boss Jim Bentley to the Shrimps' side and he was back to his prolific best with two goals of real quality.

Tom McCready was handed his full Shrimps' debut in the centre of midfield with youngster Aaron McGowan making his second start as the boss reshuffled his pack with two games in three days. Ryan Williams, Paul Mullin and Alan Goodall also returned to the squad and produced good performances on a good day.

Redshaw gave the Shrimps the lead on 22 minutes was a superb individual goal.

The striker took the ball on the left hand side of the Hartlepool area and cut inside before curling a fine right footed shot past Scott Flinders and into the bottom left hand corner of the Hartlepool goal.

His second came nine minutes from time when he latched on to a long clearance to evade the challenge of two Hartlepool defenders and drill an unstoppable low shot to beat Flinders to his right.

After a bright start Ryan Williams almost added a second for the Shrimps five minutes later when he latched on to the loose ball 20 yards from goal and drilled a rare left foot effort inches wide of Flinders’s left hand post.

Hartlepool had enjoyed plenty of possession but only threatened in the final stages of the half. Brad Walker tested Scott Davies with a free kick from the edge of the area that was smartly tipped over the bar.

From the resulting corner Hartlepool defender Dan Jones nipped in front of his marker but saw his looping header clip the top of the crossbar.
The second half saw Hartlepool again enjoy long periods of possession but failed to trouble the Morecambe goalkeeper Davies.

Duckworth headed a Franks cross over at the far post and Ironside flashed a shot over the bar from the edge of the area but the Shrimps held on for a welcome three points.
