Boss bemoans bad luck

16 February 2014

We need our luck to turn says Jim

BOSS Jim Bentley took plenty of positives from his side's defeat at Rochdale.

The Shrimps produced a much better performance in the 2-1 defeat but a fluke winner from Rochdale's Ian Henderson 18 minutes from time had Bentley pleading for some similar luck.

Bentley said: “We looked a good side on that evidence today but we’ve just got to make sure we have that bit of quality in the final third and a little bit of luck and I’m sure we’ll start winning games again.

“We’re on a bit of a sticky spell at the minute and usually the little things just go for the teams at the top.

“But that’s football and we’ve got to make sure we battle on and stick together.”

Henderson’s winner on 72 minutes had an element of fortune as it was aided by an Andy Parrish deflection.

It also came just after the Shrimps’ best spell of the game with on loan Chesterfield man Jamie Devitt to the fore.

Bentley said: “We knew we were going to be in for a tough game and changed our shape a little bit, with Jamie Devitt, who I thought was excellent, behind little Jack.

“We started the game well and it was end-to-end and then we’ve gone ahead and you want to tighten up for five or 10 minutes to make sure you don’t concede.

“But to be fair (Scott) Hogan’s an exceptional player and not many people will get the better of Andy Parrish.

“He did and cut inside and it’s a cracking finish. We went in level and tweaked a couple of things and I thought in the second half we looked a bit more of a threat in the final third.

“Devitt got in a couple of times, we had a free-kick cleared off the line but then after a little ricochet it falls to Henderson at the other end and he smashed it in the back of the net.

“It’s a fine dividing line and they’re a good side, but we gave a good account of ourselves today.

“We played some good stuff and looked a threat. The lads gave it their all for the shirt and the fans who travelled so I’m proud of them for that.”
