Shrimps' tribute to Sir Tom

15 February 2014

A true legend and friend of the club

THE Shrimps have paid tribute to Sir Tom Finney following his death at the age of 91.
Sir Tom was a big friend of Morecambe FC and is known for playing at Christie Park a number of times in his career and attending several events later in his life.
In 1960 he switched on the club's new floodlights before playing for an All Star XI against the Shrimps.
He also played for an All Star XI later in the year in a game to mark the opening of the club's new auxiliary club.
Shrimps' Director, Rod Taylor, said: "I was privileged to meet Sir Tom on a number of occasions and he was, as everyone says, always a true gent.
"One of the proudest moments of my life was walking onto the pitch with him when he the guest of honour at a game.
"He was a true legend and the thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and everyone at Preston North End.''
