Jamie jumped at chance to join Shrimps
NEW Shrimps' loan signing Jamie Devitt says he jumped at the chance of moving to the Globe Arena this week.
The 23-year-old Dubliner made his introduction this week when he took part in the Shrimps' practice game at Manchester United's Carrington training ground and admitted that it was great to be playing gain.
The former Republic of Ireland under 21 international joined the Shrimps from Cheserfield who he Spireites in the summer having been released by Hull after loan spells at the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Grimsby Town, Bradford City, Accrington Stanley and Rotherham United.
That means Devitt is no stranger to both the Globe Arena and some members of the Shrimps dressing room.
He said: “I’ve played here a good few times because I’ve been on loan at quite a few clubs.
“So I know a good few of the lads and it’s a good club to come to and I’m looking forward to it.
“I know Padraig Amond, Marcus Marshall, Kevin Ellison and a few more as well.
“I spoke to them before I came up and they said there’s a good group of lads and a good team spirit.
“I’m really looking forward to it.”
Talking about the move he said: “I went in on Monday morning at Chesterfield and the gaffer called me in and said that the gaffer here had rung up to see if I was available to play some games.
“I jumped at the chance really because I haven’t been playing much at Chesterfield so I just want to play.
“I don’t know if there’s an option for it to be extended, that depends on the two gaffers and how the month goes.
“We’ll just have to wait and see.”
He goes straight into the Shrimps' squad for the game against Portsmouth on Saturday and Devitt is hoping he can show the home fans what he can do.
He said: “I just like getting on the ball, creating things and getting my name on the scoresheet.
“Hopefully that can start on Saturday.”
