Devitt joins on loan

Chesterfield man signs up

THE Shrimps have signed Jamie Devitt on loan from League 2 rivals Chesterfield.
The 23-year-old Dubliner has joined for an initial one month spell and fills the gap left by Joe Mwasile who has been allowed to join Skrill North side Altrincham for the next month.
The former Hull City youngster, has had a number of loan spells in his career with clubs including Accrington Stanley, Bradford, Rotherham, Darlington and Shrewsbury before signing for Paul Cook’s Chesterfield.
He only signed a contract extension until the end of the season at the Proact Stadium last week but has moved down the pecking order in recent weeks.
Devitt, a former Republic of Ireland under 21 international, can play wide or in the number 10 position.
He came on as a late substitute at the Globe Arena in the Shrimps’ remarkable 4-3 victory over Chesterfield back in October.
Boss Jim Bentley said he was pleased to welcome Devitt to the Globe.
He said: “I have seen Jamie play a few times against us and always been impressed.
“He can play in several forward positions and has two good feet. He’s got pace as well and will be a good addition to the squad.
“I have said for a while that we needed a new face and he fits the bill well.’’
