Boardroom announcement & Drummond signs

MORECAMBE Football Club Chairman, Peter McGuigan, has today announced a restructuring of both the Board of Directors and the Youth Development structure.  Mr McGuigan reported, "First of all I have decided to take on the role of Chief Executive of the Club in addition to my role as Chairman.  I will now have more involvement at the Club as we embark on a period of further development."

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Nigel Adams as Vice Chairman of the Club.  Nigel joined the Board in February 2012 and has made a significant contribution to the development of the Club during this period.  He is highly respected for his professionalism and I very much welcome the opportunity to work closely with him for the future benefit of the Club.  Nigel said, "I am delighted and honoured to accept the position of Vice Chairman and look forward to serving in this role.  I believe the Club has good reason to be optimistic about the future, but this will come with it's challenges.  I look forward to working with the Chairman and the rest of the Board to ensure continued and even greater success on and off the pitch."

I am also pleased to announce that Mark Dixon is to be promoted to the position of General Manager of the Club.  Mark joined the Board in November 2008 and has been instrumental in the transition from Christie Park to our new home at the Globe Arena and has created a strong platform which will enable the Club to continue its growth.  Mark will report directly to myself and will be responsible both for the day to day management of the Club and the future developments in China.  Mark said, "I am delighted to be appointed as General Manager and I am looking forward to the many challenges in my new role.  We will look to promote Morecambe Football Club to a wider community both on and off the field and we will shortly be announcing a further strengthening of the organisation reflecting our commitment to do so."

I am also pleased to announce that Director Mark Mace has assumed responsibility at Board level for overseeing Youth Development at the Club in addition to his role as Director responsible for player management and back room staff contracts.  This is a new role that will ensure a stronger focus at Board level in an area that is fundamental for the future of the Club.

Stewart Drummond has recently signed a one year extension on his playing contract and in addition I am pleased to announce his appointment as Head of Youth.  In this new role Stewart will be responsible for all facets of youth development within the Club and will report directly to the Manager, Jim Bentley.

Stewart said: “I'm obviously delighted to sign for another year.

"I'm still focusing on playing but I am also really looking forward to overseeing the youth setup with the idea of bringing more home grown talent through.”

Boss Jim Bentley said he was happy to Drummond on board for the forthcoming season. He said: "He’s been an excellent servant to the club and still has a lot to offer, not only as a player but in other roles and responsibilities throughout the club.”

The Chairman continued, "Overall, the above changes reflect a further strengthening of the Board for the challenges ahead and we have also strengthened our commitment towards youth development.  I wish everyone mentioned above every success in their new roles."
