BURSCOUGH 0 MORECAMBE 2

30 July 2014

Match Report

THE Shrimps produced a battling performance to beat a spirited Burscough.

A Jack Redshaw penalty and a second half strike from substitute Padraig Amond gave Jim Bentley's side the win.

But it was far from one way traffic as Burscough's youngsters produced some good football and created a number of chances of their own.

The Shrimps had the perfect start as Jack Redshaw opened the scoring on four minutes from the penalty spot. Alex Kenyon was brought down on the edge of the area and Redshaw made no mistake with a well taken spot kick.

The Shrimps then dominated the early stages of the game and created a string of chances. Redshaw looked a good bet to score a second four minutes later when he was put through by Kenyon but he was denied smartly by the home keeper Tim Horn.

Jamie Devitt then forced Horn into a good save at the near post and Jack Sampson volleyed wide before the home side enjoyed a period of dominance.

Jordan Williams then went close on two occasions as the home side began to exert some pressure on the Shrimps and ended the half on top.

The second half began with Sampson shooting tamely at Horn from an acute angle and Redshaw seeing a smart volley well blocked.

At the other end of the field there was a moment of worry for central defender Ryan Edwards who suffered a hand injury in a challenge that saw him taken to hospital.

Despite the blow Morecambe maintained the pressure on the home defence and scored a second goal on 66 minutes when Amond outmuscled Nick Ryan to win Kenyon’s through ball and running through on goal to slot the ball neatly past Horn.

The game then saw chances at a premium with substitute Paul Mullin the closest to adding a third goal with a smart chip that forced an excellent save from Horn.
