11 July 2014

In association with Centrica Energy Morecambe FC offers free season tickets to year 11 students

Preparing for the new season is not confined to the footballing side of Morecambe FC. With the Club this week visiting local high schools to speak to the current Y10 students about the fabulous offer of a FREE season ticket for the 14-15 season. Next season will be the 2ndof a long term commitment made by Centrica Energy and Morecambe Football Club to offer every Y11 student (Sept intake) the opportunity to see every League 2 game played at the Globe Arena absolutely FREE.

Commenting on this week’s visits Mark Dixon said ‘the level of interest and courtesy shown by the schools has been absolutely fabulous. It is great to get out with Jim & Barry and to hear ‘there’s only one Jim Bentley’ as we were walking through the halls of Ripley was quite something. We have visited Ripley and LRGS so far this week and have been really impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the students towards this initiative. We envisage handing out over 1200 vouchers before the schools break up for their summer holidays and sincerely hope we see a large amount being redeemed through our Club Shop, before the season kicks off in August. The process really couldn’t be easier with the only stipulation being the student’s parent/guardian must visit the Club once over the summer to sign their agreement to us issuing their son/daughter with the 14/15 Season Ticket.’

Natasha Collins, Corporate Responsibility Lead from Centrica Energy commented ‘We think this is a great opportunity to get more young people involved in sport and will also help socially disadvantaged children to attend these games that they might otherwise not be able to do, MFC has a great link in with the local community and we are happy to be supporting them in this partnership.’

After visiting Ripley Morecambe Manager, Jim Bentley was full of praise for the welcome the Club were given by the school commenting; ‘it was great to speak to over 250 students about Morecambe Football Club. I’m not sure they believed me when I said that these were the best days of their lives but in their shoes I would have been the same. The opportunity that my Club and Centrica are giving to all of the Y11 students locally next year is a wonderful example of the commitment we all have to getting more people to Morecambe Football Club on a match day.’

The schools signed up to the initiative for 14/15 are: Ripley St Thomas Church of England Academy. Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Central Lancaster High School, Morecambe Community High School, Carnforth High School, Heysham High School Sports College & Our Lady’s Catholic College.
