Jim looks to boost defence

BOSS Jim Bentley is looking to bring in a defender before Saturday's game against Northampton Town at the Globe Arena.

The Shrimps' manager was unhappy with his side's defending against Accrington and with Andy Parrish and Shaun Beeley out for at least the next two weeks Bentley is looking at making changes.

Bentley said: “I’m looking at strengthening that area.

“I’ve got the go-ahead from the chairman. I can’t accept it (poor defending from set pieces) because being a defender myself and being in charge of all the defensive set plays it reflects badly on me and I’m not having it.

“I’ll looking to bring in one, maybe two, in the next couple of days, hopefully before Saturday.”

As well as bringing in players in the coming days Bentley is also working hard to finalise his squad for next season.

He said: “We’re also looking towards next season in terms of the budget.

“Attendances haven’t really gone up so the likelihood it is might be the same or it might be a little less, we’ll have to wait and see.

“The chairman’s working extremely hard travelling all round the place trying to get new investment, new directors, whatever and there’s some positive news hopefully in the coming weeks.

“At the moment I’m battling towards the budget we’ve working with this season or maybe a little bit less.

“I think the fans will want me to sign the likes of Alex Kenyon, Jack Redshaw and Ryan Williams who have done really well for us but obviously their money goes up a little bit.

“It doesn’t rocket but it’s obviously got to come off somewhere else.

“We’re talking to the lads who are out of contract and every club is going to lose one or two and we’ll be looking to bring one or two in as well.

“We’re looking to do business now as well because I’m not happy with our defensive performances of late.

“There’s a lot of work to come on and off the pitch to make sure we’re competitive for the rest of this season and next season.”

* STEWART Drummond is also set to miss the rest of the season after fracturing his toe at Dagenham last week.
