Fantastic fundraiser at the Globe on June 12thALL football fans are invited to a special talk on the history of the World Cup at the Globe Arena on June 12th.
The talk is by well known Shrimps' official Nigel Webster and covers the history of the FIFA World Football Cup Championships held between its foundation by Jules Rimet leading to the inaugural competition during 1930 (Uruguay) through to the 1970 final (Mexico) when Brazil were awarded the Jules Rimet Trophy for perpetuity having achieved the accolade of being the first nation to win the competition on three occasions.
The story surrounding the theft of the trophy during early 1966 and its eventual discovery, the police investigation and suspect's arrest are examined during the talk.
The mysterious disappearance of the 'trophy' once more whilst in Brazil is touched upon and what measures have been taken following the 1974 Final to safeguard against any repetition of loss in the future with the current FIFA World Cup as it is referred to now.
Featured also will be a personal insight into the fascinating disclosure world wide of the existence of the 'Jules Rimet Replica Trophy' and public display (formerly at the National Football Exhibition at Preston North End FC) and thereafter in Japan during the 2002 Championship.
On display at this talk will be many items of World Football Cup interest dating from 1930 onwards, comprising of a photographic and philatellic nature, together with artefacts which includes two treasured items not to be missed!
All proceeds raised from this event are to be allocated to the provision of additional training equipment for the use by Morecambe Football Club.
